Sponsor a Tree

We do not have a membership scheme other than TREE SPONSORSHIP. SPONSORS are effectively our members.

Currently, it costs £70 to sponsor a tree for the life of that tree. This one-off payment is effectively life membership of the TIDNOR WOOD ORCHARD TRUST.

£70 is an absolute bargain. It costs us on average £50 to source the tree, have it brought on in a nursery, plant it, provide a sturdy stake, guard and individual number plate, and nurture it until it can earn its own keep when we can sell the apples to a cider-maker.

That individual tree (generally there is only one of each variety in our Museum Orchard) is “yours” for the rest of its life – likely fifty years or more. Even if you forget it for a while, it should still be there to come back to.

“Yours” means that you can visit us on our Open Days, drinking in the therapeutic peace and tranquillity of our orchards, even bringing along a friend and enjoying a picnic (with a glass or two of cider, of course) in some quiet corner.

“Yours” means sponsorship, not ownership. The tree, including its intellectual property, remains in the complete ownership of the TIDNOR WOOD ORCHARD TRUST at all times. To be otherwise would be silly and could result in a legal nightmare. The tree which you will sponsor will, we hope, be an important part of our international museum and gene bank, and we need to protect it in its entirety.

The tree would be yours emotionally for the whole of its life. We would invite you to visit and help yourself to some of its fruit in season. We could take a small piece and graft a clone for you to plant in your garden and we could always put a camera to good use.

“Yours” could mean a gift to a friend, an expression of love, of remembrance. Trees come with smart certificates and that could include an appropriate cider apple gift card if required. We try and do what our sponsors want – just ask.

I would add that the trees in Old Orchard, our vintage and traditional orchard of standard (full-sized) trees are also available for sponsorship. Despite their age, the majority of the old trees are remarkably fertile. Additionally, we have twenty or so young apples and six perry pears. The latter can live two centuries or more and grow very big. If you are interested in sponsoring a tree in Museum Orchard, please let us know by completing the sponsorship form  and naming the tree(s) you wish to sponsor in the "comments" box. Sponsoring a tree is a positive and unselfish act that demonstrates a concern for the environment at large.
